Sussex
Academy Of Sport
(A Company Limited by Guarantee having charity
status)
Former
Hastings Westhill Boxing favourite Paul Huggins
(pictured right) has teamed up with an array of the Sussex's
finest to launch the 'SAS" short for the "Sussex
Academy of Sport", the aim of which is to support
less privileged youngsters in their quest to fulfil their
sporting dreams.
Joining
with Paul in this project are The Rt Hon Mr Metcalfe MBE (Ambassador
to Sussex Sport) Frank Maloney, Stevie "Boy" martin,
Henry Mears, Alan Minter (Former World Middleweight Champion),
Micky Minter, Dave Edwards and Teddy Maybanks to name just
a few.
A
team of unpaid administrators is also in place ensuring that
the opportunities afforded by "SAS" sponsorships
are being used to the best advantage.
To achieve the required finance the "SAS" team are
signing up thousands of patrons for an annual subscription
of just £100 (less than £2 per week), of which
100% goes directly into the "Sussex Academy of
Sport" in order to maximise the benefit to the
young individuals they endeavor to assist.
Patrons
will have the opportunity to attend events in local towns
across the Sussex region that will include shows, dinners,
weekends away and awards presentations and in addition each
patron will be given an "SAS" card entitling them
to a 10% discount at selected businesses (where a sign is
displayed) across the region.
An
"SAS" web site (under construction) will update
patrons in regards to the progress of the "SAS"
and how subscriptions are benefiting the youth in our area.
Until the SAS web site is ready, Paul's "Entertainer"
web site www.entertainer-online.co.uk
will act as the voice of the SAS.
The
SAS are not waiting for completion of their web site, work
has already begun and youngsters are already benefiting. If
you wish to get involved right now you can by either call
Paul (07967 000918) or Susie (07922 055525) or send an email
to paulhastings2006@yahoo.co.uk
Two
Hastings based Boys already to benefit from the generosity
of "SAS" patrons are Westhill boxer Steve Hill (pictured
above) and Troy Walford (pictured below), a talented local
skate boarder who was brought to the attention of the "SAS"
by former Hastings West Hill boxing coach Dave Harris, now
a staunch supporter and honorary member at the Hastings cell
of the S.A.S.
Paul
recently watched Steve box at the West Hill ABC Home show
and was suitably impressed. Steve showed great courage and
determination in his first fight, impressing the judges to
gain a unanimous decision against Leon Syred of Horsham. The
contest was a real crowd pleaser from start to finish with
referee Paul Gates having very little to do. Paul and his
S.A.S. colleagues were particularly impressed by Steve's comitment,
as Steve travels to the club by bus three times a week without
fail, so in true S.A.S. style Steve received a sponsorship
to ensure he is able to acquire the kit he needs to work toward
his future success.
Troy,
at just 17 years old, has the potential to join the professional
ranks, but needed some financial support leading up to the
British Championships. As such it was time for the Sussex
Academy of Sport, to step in and help Troy to realise his
dreams and become the first independent beneficiary of the
"SAS".
It
is our privilege to support Paul and his colleagues in their
endeavor, we hope this web page draws a lot of attention to
a very worthy cause.
