"Boxing Action "

Romford ABC Show, Dukes Hall Romford - Nov 3rd:

Three West Hill lad's, Henry Woodman Ball, Ben White and Barry Buchanan boxed on the Romford ABC Show, held at the Dukes Hall Romford on November 3rd.

Henry was 1st to box against J Sawyer of home club Romford ABC. Henry put in another strong display to secure his 2nd victory in 2 outings, this time by unanimous points.

Ben White was next to box against Kingfisher ABC's strong but elusive southpaw Caine Brunning. Ben gamely tried to close the gap to deliver his punches but came up short on this occasion and lost on a unanimous points decision.

Barry Buchanan was last to box against James Innes of Cwmbran Police Academy ABC. Barry started slowly and had ground to make up going into the later rounds. Barry gave it his all but was unable to pull back enough points in a spirited comeback and lose by a majority points decision.

Southern Counties vs Midlands, Copthorne Hotel Effingham Park - Nov 3rd:

While his older brother Barry was boxing on the Romford Show, Dennis "Butch" Buchanan was representing the Southern Counties against a Midlands Select Team at a show organised by representatives of the Crawley ABC, our own guest writer of the "Ask The Ref" column Rees Hopcraft heavily involved in the organisation.

The show, staged at the Copthorne Hotel, Effingham Park was a superb spectacle for those attending and a joy for all boxers and coaches involved.

Dennis boxed superbly on the back foot to beat a strong opponent in Innolee Kiyimba.

Innolee seemed to absorb everything Dennis had to offer, never taking a step backward, however Dennis stuck to his game plan and won by a 7 to 2 points margin.

Titchfield ABC Show Porstmouth Guildhall - Nov 9th:

Shaun Attrell was the sole representative for the club at the Titchfield Show. Shaun back to his best after a rusty start to the season forced his opponent D, Harrison of the Navy to retire in the 3rd round.

Junior Novice ABA 1/2 Finals - Bristol - Nov 10th

The club was hoping to have 2 boys through to the finals of a national competition for the 1st time since the 80's when Dave Bishop and Brian Robinson won through to the finals of the NABC championship. Hopes lay with Jake Towse boxing at U60 Kg Class A and James McMahon boxing at U63 Kg Class A.

Jake was 1st to box against George Kean of Times ABC, who brought superb credentials with him to the ring. Kean, twice a London Novice Champion had lost just once, in a previous national final and had stopped 6 of his last 8 opponents.

The bout lived up to expectation and was worthy of any final with both boys doing themselves and their clubs proud. Kean got the nod in what must have been a very tight decision (scores were not available) after pegging back a superb start by Jake in the latter rounds.

It was left to Dave Bishop's charge, James "Paddy" McMahon to salvage the day against Reece Newcombe of Dale Youth ABC. Paddy started well and built an early lead and was able to maintain that lead through to the close to secure the club's first national finalist of the 2007/08 season. Go for it Paddy we are all routing for you.

Shepway ABC Show - Nov 10th:

Barry Buchanan was the sole club representative on the Shepway ABC show boxing against L Bradley of Twin Towns ABC Ireland ABC. In almost an exact replica of his previous bout Barry left it all to do in the latter rounds and could not quite stem the points gap to drop a second majority points decision.

Senior ABA Novice Prelims, Southhampton - Nov 11th:

Dave Warren and Steve Garlick have entered the Senior Novice event, Dave at Class A U64 Kg and Steve at Class A U86 Kg.

Dave boxed well to secure his pace in the area final with a convincing unanimous points win over James Macintosh of Basingstoke ABC, while Steve Garlick was given a walkover to the final.
