Boxing Action & Results

29/03/2007 - Gillingham JABA Southern Counties Finals

Sole West Hill survivor from the preliminary round was 2006 Golden Gloves Champion James "Sid" Smith who faced the 2007 Golden Belt Champion Josh Kennedy from Shepway. In a tightly scored contest Kennedy won through 3 - 1 on points - we wish Josh all the best in the semi finals after going on to win his next bout, the quarter final in convincing style.

Four West Hill boys were matched as supporting bouts on the day, but only Ben White was able to secure a victory with an excellent display of counter punching and controlled boxing. Results were as follows:

Jack Hughes Waterside Outpd Ollie Bristow

Ollie Bristow and Jack Hughes

Connor Sandells Hillcrest Outpd Steven Hill

Steve Hill and Conner Sandells

Martin Mcdonagh Sheerness Outpd Jesse Smith

04/03/2007 - Hove Show

Just one West Hill boxer fought on the Hove show, Fred Phelps topped the show in the evening's last bout, which was an eagerly awaited rematch with Ed Lawrence, Moulescoombe - Fred dug dip in the final round to secure a deserved majority win decision.

06/04/2007 - 101 Rounds Of Sparring

Friday 6th April was officially "Girl Power Day" as Tiffany Atrell was proud to represent the West Hill in assisting Janie Brashill of Brighton City Boxing Club successfully complete her 101 round sparathon.

Janie was helped along the way by home club boxer Phil Navichas who completed 22 rounds himself, helping Janie down the tough home stretch and fittingly sparring the 101st round with Janie.

Well done to Janie and the Brighton City Club for coming up with such a positive way to raise funds and awareness to Female Amateur Boxing.
