ATHA Bexhill8th December 2007

The West Hill ABC held it's annual Christmas Show at the ATHA Club, Bexhill-on-Sea on the 8th December 2007.

Head coach and matchmaker Dave Bishop managed to organise a show that contained 16 evenly matched quality bouts - No small feat given that he was competing against the lure of two of the years most eagerly awaited televised boxing events, involving Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton. Also given the time of year several boxers needed to pull out through illness, just days before the show.Paul Gates

The show's MC was once again West Hill ABC favourite Dave Harris. As stated so many times before, nobody does the job of MC better than Dave and as expected he delivered the goods with a burning passion for boxing that shines through in his commentary as events unfold.

The shows success was secured by the attendance and officiating of Eddie Bryant and his colleagues from the Sussex ABA to whom we would like to send our thanks and also take this opportunity to send our best wishes for a enjoyable Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Inside the ring the action was controlled by Paul Gates and Harry Slater who both did a sterling job, ensuring the action flowed continually. Every bout was highly entertaining while fair and correct to the rules of the ABA.

We would further like to thank all those who assisted in any small way with organisation, from placing posters in shop windows to helping with the ring set up, there are far too many to mention but you know who you are!

Final words of thanks must go to all the boxers and coaches who attended and the clubs they represent, those being:-

The 1st senior bout of the evening was a real David and Goliath affair with Luke using his advantage in height and reach to just edge out Billy.

In one of the most competitive bouts of the evening Stacey rallied in the final round to snatch a majority points decision over Dennis.

In what for many was the best senior bout of the evening Shaun out manoeuvred Glen with some excellent boxing skills to win by a unanimous points decision.
Edward Lawrence Moulescoombe ABC
Toande Ladele Lynn Ac
After a committed onslaught from Toande, Ed was retired by his corner during the first round, having received a nasty cut over the left eye.
Darryl Setterfield New Addington ABC
Carl Turner Westhill ABC
Darryl rallied well to overcome a potentially substantial points deficit and stop Carl in the 3rd round.
Terry Freeman ATHA ABC
Ben Grumbrell Horsham ABC
Home favourite Terry was unable to secure the win his followers were hoping for as Ben's strength and accurate punching ensured he won by a unanimous points decision.
Michael Ward Bromley & Downham ABC
Billy White Westhill ABC
By his own admission Bill got off to a very slow start and took some unnecessary blows in the first that meant he was playing catch up. He had work to do but was denied the opportunity to prove his metal when Michael suffered a moment of madness and insulted the referee, he later refused to apologise when given the opportunity to continue and was therefore disqualified. Hopefully lessons will be learned from this bout from both boxers.
Dan Yeoell Hillcrest ABC
Steve Garlick Westhill ABC
The final bout of the night was the shortest as Dan began an onslaught from the opening bell that caught Steve cold and resulted in a 1st round stoppage.
