Show Report
|
J. McDonagh West Ham ABC |
Conner Sime Hastings Westhill ABC |
| Bout
1: An excellent bout to start the evening, both boys boxed
well. Conner asserted himself throughout and deservedly
secured a unanimous points victory to get Hastings Westhill
ABC off to a great start. |
|
|
L.
Binns ABC |
Henry
Woodman Ball Hastings Westhill ABC |
| Bout
2: A crowd pleasing bout, with boys giving their all. It
came down to who wanted it more as both boys ran out of
steam. Henry pushed himself to the limit and was able to
just secure a majority points victory - 2 wins out of 2
for Hastings Westhill ABC. |
|
|
R.
Aylett Margate ABC
|
H.
Price West Ham ABC |
Bout
3 was contended by 2 visiting boxers H. Price of West Ham
ABC and R. Aylett of Margate ABC. Price didn't hang around
in securing West Ham ABC's first win of the evening, stopping
his opponent in the 1st round (RSC 1) with a superb display
of powerful boxing. |
|
|
L.
Cooke Margate ABC |
Fin
Metcalfe Hastings Westhill ABC
|
Bout
4: Fin and L. Cooke met for a return of a debut bout that
Fin won on points just a few weeks previously. Cooke was
looking for revenge and was close to securing a quick victory
when putting Fin on the canvas via a barrage of heavy punches
in the 1st round. Fin, however had different ideas and spurred
on by a stern talking to from his corner, he dug deep to
show his true metal, stopping Cooke in the 2nd round - 3
out of 3 for Hastings Westhill ABC, we were going really
well! |
|
|
F.
Smith Hailsham ABC |
M.
Cousins West Ham ABC |
Bout
5: Former Hastings West Hill ABC national champion Frank
Smith, now boxing for Hailsham ABC was pitched against West
ham's rising star M. Cousins. Cousins continuous pressure
and Smith's counter punching blended perfectly to ensure
an excellent bout that could have gone either way without
complaint from either club. On this occasion Smith was awarded
a majority points victory, but it was so close a return
surely beckons. |
|
|
D.
Osbourne Adur ABC |
Kyle
Logan Hastings Westhill ABC |
Bout
6: Both kyle and Dan had previous wins over the same opponents,
so their meeting was set to be an exciting contest. The
contest certainly lived up to expectation, Kyle however,
dominated the action, boxing superbly, securing a unanimous
points victory. Kyle's performance was all the more impressive
as he had suffered a family bereavement just days before
he was due to box, being the trooper he is, Kyle insisted
that he wanted to box, as he did not wish to let the club
or his opponent down, if only all boys showed this kind
of commitment, matching shows would be much easier - 4 out
of 4 for Hastings Westhill ABC, the dream start continued. |

|
J.
Woods Foley ABC
|
B.
White Hastings Westhill ABC
|
Bout
7: Jake Woods of Foley ABC and Ben White were set to meet
for the 3rd time, Ben holding 2 victories from their first
2 meetings, the latest being in a bout contested literally
days before our show. It is never easy to box the same boy
several times and as such it is vitally important to remain
100% focused as the boxer looking for the first victory
has additional motivation. By his own admission Ben didn't
get into his rhythm quickly enough and Jake seized the opportunity
to revenge his previous defeats securing a majority points
victory. Ben being the sportsman he is, didn't look for
excuses but acknowledged Woods boxed better on the night
and congratulated him on his victory. No doubt these 2 lads
are destined to cross paths again in the near future - 4
out of 5 for Hastings Westhill ABC. |
| |
|
J.
Herbert West Ham ABC
|
Shaun
Attrell Hastings Westhill ABC
|
Bout
8: Both Shaun and Jack Herbert of West ham ABC had only
been back in training for a few weeks this season, but you
would never have known, they set about each other form the
first bell, in a bout that could have been contested in
a telephone box. Jack took the initiative early on, only
for Shaun to have the crowd on their feet as he pulled it
back through the later rounds to secure a majority points
victory. It was a cracking bout and was deservedly awarded
the "Best Bout" of the night award - Hastings
Westhill ABC moved to 5 victories from 6 bouts contested. |
|
|
N.
Jenman Moulescombe ABC |
J.
Ryder Angel ABC
|
Bout
9 was contested by two fine visiting boxers. Nick Jenman
of Moulescombe ABC who is fast approaching his 100th amateur
contest, having mixed it with the best of them, including
james Degale met Angel ABC's up and coming star and national
novice champion John Ryder over 4 X 2 minute rounds. It
was a superb bout which southpaw Ryder eventually won by
a unanimous points decision. Nick pushed Ryder close giving
his all as is his trademark. |
| |
|
S
Ellis Foley ABC |
R.
Matthews Portsmouth Stacey ABC
|
| Similar
to bout 9, bout 10 was again contested by two experienced
visiting boxers. Steve Ellis and Robert Matthews were well
matched and didn't disappoint, both displaying great technique
and excellent fitness before Ellis secured a close unanimous
victory and rounded off a great night for Foley ABC. |
| |
|
V.
Malik Crawley ABC |
J.
Raval St Marys ABC |
| Bout
11 was again contested between 2 visiting boxers. Another
close bout with both men displaying could technique with Raval
of St Marys ABC coming out on top by a unanimous points decision
over malik of Crawley ABC. |
| |
|
J.
Kennedy Folkestone ABC |
B.
Morgan West Ham ABC |
| Bout
12 was contested between 2 superb talents, Josh Kennedy of
Folkestone ABC and Billy Morgan of West Ham ABC, both previous
national champions. Kennedy was giving away age and experience
to Morgan but that didn't stop him going on the attack for
all 4 rounds, demonstrating superb fitness and determination.
Morgan who spent the vast majority of the bout on the back
foot cleverly blocked a lot of shots on his arms and countered
well to squeeze the tightest of majority points victories.
It was very close, both boys deserving every accolade - A
real contender for bout of the night. |
| |
|
J.
Chapman Crawley ABC |
A.
Waller Hastings Westhill ABC |
| Bout
13: 33 year old Ali Waller, has had to learn fast this season,
as he only has a few months before he will be forced to retire
from amateur boxing due to age restriction. He was up against
the more experienced John Chapman of Crawley ABC in what was
Ali's amateur boxing debut. Unfortunately all did not go as
planned as Chapman seized on Ali's inexperience and pressured
him into taking a knee early in the first round. As the action
resumed John wasn't going to be denied his first victory and
punched non stop until the ref called a stop to the bout -
5 wins from 7 for Hastings Westhill ABC. |
| |
|
E.
Lawrence Moulescombe ABC |
M.
Wheeler Woking ABC |
| Bout
14 was the last bout contested between 2 visiting boxers.
Ed Lawrence of Moulescombe who is never in a poor bout boxed
superbly against M. Wheeler of Woking ABC over 4 X 2 minute
rounds to secure a unanimous points victory. It was great
to see Ed back to something near his best. |
| |
|
S.
Hillman Whitehawk ABC |
S.
Garlick Hastings Westhill ABC |
| Bout
15 was an exiting match up pitching home favourite Steve Garlick
against robust, durable S. Hillman of Whitehawk ABC. Steve
who enjoyed strong (Very loud) support from friends and family
boxed well on the back foot to keep Hillman, who didn't relent
from applying pressure, at bay for the majority of the bout
and secured a majority points victory - 7 wins from 9 bouts
for Hastings Westhill ABC |
| |
|
S.
Canning Hailsham ABC |
C.
Turner Hastings Westhill ABC |
| Bout
16: The final bout of the evening was a slugfest between S.
Canning of Hailsham ABC and Carl Turner of Hastings Westhill
ABC. It was an exiting match up that see-sawed both ways with
Carl holding the advantage going into the 3rd round. Canning,
however, to his credit, dug deep showing grit and determination
forcing home power shots that resulted in the referee stopping
the contest in his favour during the last round - Hastings
Westhill ABC ended the evening with a commendable 7 wins from
10 bouts. |
